The Palestinian National Council (PNC) said that our people today are more committed to their national rights and more insistent on refusing to accept the occupier realities of controlling the land and preventing the possibility of establishing the Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
In a statement issued this evening, Saturday, on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of Nakba, PNC added, "The Palestinian people have succeeded in the past to thwart many projects to eliminate our Palestinian national cause. As a result of the unity and resistance of Palestinian people, and the unity of their political program embodied in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Palestinians were able to restore their cause after it was lost in the drawers of the United Nations."
He said: The Palestinian people all forces, political and popular spectrum wherever they live, are commemorating the Nakba, which was the outcome of the most heinous crime committed against Palestinians by the Zionist gangs backed by the forces of Western colonialism.
The statement continued: "For 74 years, our people are united in the face of the Zionist project, which continues in more than one form. The daily crimes committed by the Israeli occupation soldiers in Palestine, the acceleration of settlement operations, the theft of land, arrests, and the practice of all kinds of terrorism, are a continuation and extension of the Nakba. The Israeli occupation was unable to achieve its project due to the resistance and steadfastness of Palestinian people, who stand alone and, on behalf of humanity, confronting the Zionist project, which has become a danger to the whole world due to its aggression, arrogance, and violation of the most basic rules of international law, but rather a violation of all humanitarian standards."
The Presidency of the PNC affirmed that Palestinian people adhere to their national rights is supported by dozens of international resolutions. Our national unity is a prerequisite for victory. We reiterate the need to make all efforts to end the division and work to implement what the national bodies agreed upon, especially the decisions of the PNC and the Central Council, and putting the decisions into direct implementation, according to the President's assertion at the funeral of journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh, which constitutes a response to the policy of murder and terrorism practiced by Israel against our people and requires quick action to bring Israel and its leaders to an international trial.
PNC called for commemorating the Nakba with what meets the occasion of unified national activities that affirm the unity of Palestinian people and confirm the inalienable national rights, and called on all our people - inside and outside Palestine - to actively participate in all national activities to commemorate the Nakba in a unified message to the world, expressing the Palestinian people's insistence on refusing to surrender to the effects of the Nakba on the level of displacement of our people and Israeli occupation of their land by force of terrorism. The flag of Palestine must be raised, to constitute a message of Palestinian adherence to the right to continue the struggle to extract our full rights in a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of the refugees.
The Palestinian National Council (PNC) considered the stances launched by the Commissioner-General of UNRWA regarding transferring of UNRWA services to other international organizations are rejected by the Palestinian people, and are exceeding the powers of the Commissioner-General, and contradicting the mandate granted by the United Nations General Assembly to UNRWA, and also exceeding Resolution 302 that established The Relief Agency as a temporary agency until the implementation of Resolution 194.
In a statement issued today, Monday, PNC called on the Commissioner-General to intensify efforts towards donor countries and the international community to implement their commitments, whether with regard to implementing United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian issue or funding UNRWA, and increasing services in line with the increasing needs of refugees.
PNC stressed the need for cooperation between all concerned parties, especially the donor and host countries and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), in order to mobilize the necessary funding for the 2022 budget to respond to the needs of refugees and workers’ rights, and to make diplomatic efforts to ensure the renewal of the UNRWA mandate with high and comfortable voting rates, and to emphasize the importance of existence of the UNRWA and the necessity of providing adequate services to refugees.
PNC renewed its adherence to the UNRWA and its services as a witness to the tragedy of the Palestinian refugee, and to the political and moral responsibility of the international community in terms of securing a decent life for Palestinian refugees, until the date of return to Palestine in accordance with International Resolution No. 194. PNC expressed its full readiness to contribute to the collective effort to protect the UNRWA, and keeping it away from the cycle of political and financial blackmail, and communicating with friendly and allied countries of Palestinian people in order to ensure that UNRWA is kept away from the effects of international crises.
The Speaker of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Mr. Rawhi Fattouh, condemned the Israeli occupation army’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and brutally assaulting and harassing worshipers.
In a statement issued by Fattouh today, Friday, he considered that the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque at dawn today, represents an unprecedented escalation, and a provocation that cannot be tolerated for the feelings of the Arab and Islamic nations, and all the free people in the world.
This barbaric intrusion also comes in the context of the comprehensive war waged by the occupying state and its settlers against our people by continuing cold-blooded killings and executions, and continuing campaigns of arrest and settlement that included all Palestinian lands, Fattouh said.
The Israeli occupation seeks - through its brutal war on our people - to consolidate complete occupying control over Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, Fattouh added, this is a try to isolate Al-Aqsa Mosque in a desperate attempt to break the will of the Palestinian people, and try to discourage them from continuing to adhere to rights and struggle to achieve them.
Fattouh called on the international community, the Arab and Islamic nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and all parliaments in the world to intervene urgently in order to stop this barbaric aggression that targets the Palestinian people and all their Christian and Islamic sanctities.
PNC Speaker saluted the valiant masses of Palestinian people, in all the governorates of the country, for their cohesion and united response against the Israeli occupation and its gangs of settlers. He also saluted in particular Palestinian people in Jerusalem and those stationed in Al-Aqsa Mosque who confronted the aggression while they were unarmed, and thwarted the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque at dawn today, stressing that the unity of Palestinian people in all their places of residence is the only way to confront the continuous aggression and thwart its goals and plans.
The Palestinian National Council (PNC) said that caring for the prisoners and detainees, the families of the martyrs and the wounded, and providing them with a decent life is a national duty and a legal obligation, and one of our constants, that their cause is at the top of the priorities of Palestinian people, institutions and leadership.
In a statement issued on the occasion of the Palestinian Prisoner's Day, which falls on April 17 every year, PNC added that the Palestinian people, solidarity movements and human rights, and human rights institutions, are commemorating this occasion to celebrate the sacrifices of the prisoners that they offer as a price for the freedom of their Palestinian people, and an affirmation of their right to obtain freedom from the prisons of the Israeli occupation.
PNC reiterated the rejection of the incitement campaigns and the systematic punitive measures practiced by the occupation government against the prisoners, and attempts to label their struggle with terrorism. The statement saluted the steadfastness of the prisoners and detainees, in the forefront of them are the leaders Marwan Barghouthi, Ahmad Sa’adat and Fouad Al-Shobaki.
PNC stressed the duty of the contracting states under Geneva Conventions of 1949, to pressure the Israeli occupation to immediately release the prisoners, led by the long term prisoners, women, children, sick cases and the elderly, such as the 83-year-old prisoner, the leader, Fouad Al-Shobaki, to implement the text of Article 109 of the Third Geneva Convention, and obligate the occupation to apply Articles (90 and 91) of the Fourth Geneva Convention, to guarantee the right of Palestinian prisoners to obtain the necessary treatment and adequate medical care in their capacity as “protected persons,” as well as to support them in accordance with the text of Articles (81 and 98) of the same Convention, given that Israel is ”The Detaining Power” to them.
PNC appealed to the regional and international parliamentary unions, and the relevant institutions to announce their stance towards the violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian prisoners, the latest of which is the piracy of amounts the Palestinian government pays to the prisoners’ families from the Palestinian tax funds collected by Israel, and to pressure the Israeli Knesset to cancel its racist legislation towards the prisoners, which is violating the rules and provisions of The Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions.
The council indicated that The occupation arrests about 4,500 Palestinians, including 160 children, 31 women, 549 serving life sentences, 530 administrative detainees, and about 600 prisoners suffering from chronic and dangerous diseases such as cancer, as is the case with the prisoner Nasser Abu Hmaid, PNC indicated that 227 prisoners have been martyred in the Israeli occupation prisons since 1967, as a result of torture and deliberate medical negligence.
