Palestine National Council (PNC) renewed its call for humanitarian and human rights institutions, parliaments of the world and their free peoples, to declare their solidarity with the Governor of Jerusalem, Mr. Adnan Ghaith, and to act urgently to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to release him, especially as he is subject to continuous investigations in the cells of Ashkelon prison, in harsh conditions of detention, and in violation of Geneva Conventions related.
In a statement issued today, PNC considered that the continued detention of the Governor of Jerusalem, Mr. Ghaith by the Israeli occupation for the 14th day in a row is an additional crime, and a direct targeting of the occupied city of Jerusalem and its religious, national institutions, leaders and symbols, in order to empty it of its original owners.
PNC declared that Governor Ghaith had been arrested on 19th of July 2020 for the eighteenth time in two years, that means since he took office, without any justification except that he is acting his national role in serving Palestinian people, in the capital of the occupied Palestinian state, which is recognized by the United Nations, This confirms that this illegal detention is aimed solely at targeting the Palestinian presence in occupied Jerusalem.
The arrest of the Governor of Jerusalem, and transferring him outside the borders of his occupied country, constituted a war crime and a flagrant violation of the provisions of (Article 76) of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which stipulates that captured persons (prisoners) should stay in their country, stressing the duty of all signatory states parties under the agreements of Geneva 1949, to pressure the Israeli occupation to release the Palestinian prisoners, and put an end to its repeated violations of the agreements, PNC confirmed.
PNC added: The arrest of Governor Ghaith comes in the context of the occupation attack against occupied Jerusalem, by demolishing homes, expelling residents, closing down national and cultural institutions, and arresting hundreds of children and storming holy sites and other series of Judaization, in direct targeting of the legal and political status of the occupied Jerusalem
PNC recall that Jerusalem is an occupied Palestinian city, in accordance with United Nations resolutions including Security Council Resolutions No. 252 (1968), 267 (1969), 465, 476 and 478 (1980), 2334 (2016), which consider all Israeli measures and laws aimed at changing The legal and political status of the city of Jerusalem, its sanctities, identity and demographic composition, are null and void.
Palestine National Council (PNC) praised the European Parliament’s position, rejecting the Israeli annexation plan for the occupied Palestinian territories, and called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union to announce its position on the annexation plan, and the right of Palestinian people to end the Israeli occupation, same to the position of their fellow European and American parliamentarians.
In a statement issued today, PNC appreciated the position of more than a thousand parliamentarians from across the continent of Europe, who signed a letter - addressed to the ministries of foreign affairs of European countries – to affirmed their strong opposition to Israel's plans to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, and called for appropriate responses to this peace-killer plan for the region, and challenges the most basic international standards.
PNC praised the warnings that were signed by 1080 parliamentarians from 25 countries, that allowing the annexation to pass without rerponse, would encourage other countries that have territorial claims to "ignore the basic principles of international law", along with its disastrous effects on security and stability of the region.
PNC expressed its thanks and appreciation to these parliamentarians, who considered that the "Deal of the Century" confiscates Palestinian rights, gives the Israeli occupation permanent control over the Palestinian lands, deprives the Palestinian people of their right to sovereignty over their lands and wealth, and gives the occupation the green light to annex large parts of the Palestinian lands.
PNC called on the rest of the world’s parliamentarians in Latin America and Africa to take the same positions and pressure their governments to take practical measures against the occupation and its settlement projects, valuing at the same time the position of all parliamentarians, especially in France, Italy, Denmark, Britain and Greece, and members of the US American Congress and others, who they expressed their rejection of the annexation plan, and the need for their countries’ governments to recognize the State of Palestine.
PNC also requested the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the Union for the Mediterranean, the Pan-African Parliament, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union in particular, as it includes the largest gathering of the world's 178 parliaments, to condemn and declare an explicit and open position on the Israeli annexation plan for the occupied Palestinian territories, and impose deterrent sanctions on the Israeli occupation parliament (the Knesset), which is a partner in all the crimes of the occupation and policy in violation of international law, and international legitimacy resolutions.
PNC also called on Arab and Islamic parliaments, to dedicate all their potential and their relations with the parliaments of the world to mobilize international parliamentary public opinion, to confront the occupation's plans, racist policies and terrorism against Palestinian people.
The international parliamentary actions would constitute a major pressure tool on the governments of their countries, to take practical measures to deter the occupation and its policies, PNC said, as well as international parliaments' recognition of the right of the Palestinian people to get rid of the occupation, and establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
PNC stressed the continuation of its contacts with all parliaments, unions and parliamentary assemblies in the world, and urged all these institutions to assume its responsibilities stipulated in its charters and regulations, in supporting justice, truth, international law and protecting human rights, and rejecting the injustice, aggression and occupation to which our people are subjected.
On the 53rd anniversary of Israel's occupation of the remaining lands of Palestine, Palestine National Council (PNC) affirmed that we will continue to confront all conspiracy projects aimed at eliminating the Palestinian national presence on the land of parents and grandparents, stressing that the implementation of absolving from agreements with this occupation will be carried out in defense of our existence and our rights.
In a statement issued on the anniversary of the setback (Naksa), which occurred on 5th of June 1967, PNC said: There is no alternative to ending the occupation, and restoring the legitimate rights to freedom, independence and return, and the independent state over the entire borders of 4th of June 1967 with its capital, the city of Jerusalem.
The long years of Israeli occupation of our land and the accompanying racist policies and measures of occupation, failed to change the identity of the Palestinian Arab land, distort its history and extended civilization, and the eternal bonding of the Palestinian people to this land. PNC added, the Israeli occupation failed to undermine the people's adherence and defending of their inalienable rights despite the oppression and racism of this occupation.
PNC affirmed that the Israeli occupation - with full American support - is racing against time in implementing its plans to annex the remainder of the Palestinian occupied lands, escalating its procedures to Judaize the city of Jerusalem, confiscating lands and building settlements, attempts to undermine the Palestinian leadership, and undermining the Palestinian National Authority, in addition to continuing detention, terrorism and executions by the settlers, the most recent of what happened to the martyr with special needs Iyad Hallaq in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
All of these terrorist policies and practices, no doubt, reflect Tel Aviv government’s insistence on continuing to occupy the lands of the Palestinian state, and pushing the region toward further deterioration and escalation, PNC added.
The Council called on the international community to react to Israel's continued violations of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, to guarantee our people's right to self-determination and return to live in the Palestinian sovereign state with its capital, Jerusalem. PNC demanded concrete steps to impose sanctions on Israel, to stop the implementation of annexation schemes of the Palestinian occupied lands.
PNC renewed its call to end the division, and unify the endeavors under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the legal and sole representative of the Palestinian people wherever they are, in order to confront the risks to our national project.
PNC stressed the importance of aligning firmly behind the Palestinian leadership, represented by President Abu Mazen, in a framework to address what is so-called the American " Deal of the Century "and confront the Israeli annexation plans.
The PNC statement concluded by saluting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, for its defense of rights, land, identity and sanctities, in addition to Palestinian insistence on achieving the dream of our martyrs in founding the sovereign state on the entire Palestinian soil.
Palestine National Council (PNC) said that the PLO was and will remain the home of our people and the only legitimate representative of all Palestinians wherever they are, and will remain the leader of the Palestinians struggle, and the protector of the national project until return and independence.
In a statement issued today, Wednesday, PNC added, on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of launching of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which meets 28th of May 1964, the events have proven that PLO which the late Ahmed Al Shugairi fought for its establishment, and followed after by the founding leaders, the foremost is the martyr and symbol Yasser Arafat, represents the Palestinian people and leads its struggle. Because PLO is the guarantee and the guardian of the independent national decision, in addition to protecting Palestinian people rights to self-determination and return, and establishing the independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
On that day of PLO founding in 1964, the city of Jerusalem embraced hundreds of representatives of our people from within the homeland and Diaspora, PNC added, to announce that Palestinian will rebound from the ashes of the Catastrophe (Nakba) where nobody will be able to block, and to announce the birth of the most important Palestinian national achievement, which is launching the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
PNC reaffirmed that the PLO, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, is now confronting the fiercest Israeli-American war on our rights. PLO will succeed in thwarting Israeli-American goals, just as it succeeded in thwarting the attempts to damage PLO as the sole representative of our people and find alternatives to it. PNC stressed that PLO, previously, did not allow anybody to speak on behalf of Palestinian people, and would not allow anybody to pretend representing Palestinians interests.
PNC affirmed that, the sacrifices of the martyrs, the wounded and the prisoners, PLO was able, to restore and protect our Palestinian identity, principles and people, and gained international recognition as a legitimate and sole representative of the Palestinian people, until acheiving the recognition of Palestine as a state member of the United Nations, with its capital, Jerusalem, on the borders of 4th of June, 1967.
Thwarting attempts to liquidate our national project requires ending the division and achieving unity within the framework of the PLO, PNC reaffirmed, there is no longer any excuse for anybody, especially after the Palestinian leadership’s decision to absolve of agreements and understandings with the Israeli occupation and Trump’s administration.
PNC affirmed that it will continue to work for the activation and development of the PLO bodies, and to enhance its role in the Palestinian political system, just as the pioneer founders and martyrs, from Ahmed Al-Shugairi to Abu Ammar and George Habash and other martyrs and leaders, wanted. PLO also works on implementing the decisions of PNC and Central councils related to the development and activation of its institutions
Palestine National Council (PNC) called on the parliaments of the world to take serious action at all legal and political levels, and to work with their governments to impose sanctions on the government of Israel, to end its occupation and forbid it from implementing the annexation plans for the territories of the occupied state of Palestine.
In identical messages, the Speaker of PNC Saleem Al-Za’anoon addressed the heads of Arab, Islamic, African, Asian parliamentary unions, The Arab Parliament, The European Parliament, The Inter-Parliamentary Union, European and Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Associations, and a number of heads of specific national parliaments in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, to remind them of their responsibilities towards the suffering of the Palestinian people for 72 years, since the Catastrophe (Nakba) in 1948.
In its messages, PNC added that the anniversary of the (Nakba) is accompanied by the announcement of the Israeli occupation government to take executing actions to annex large parts of the remaining Palestinian land occupied since 1967, to implement the President Trump's plan so called "Deal of the Century".
In its messages also, PNC said that the implementation of the Israeli-American annexation project is considered a cancellation of the agreements signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel & USA, which is a further evidence that they don’t want peace, and seek to liquidate the Palestinian issue.
PNC called on parliaments to reject these plans and measures, and to take what is necessary to forbid its implementation, in order to avoid opening widely the doors of escalation in the region, calling on the governments of the world to support Palestinian people to get rid of the Israeli occupation, and to recognize the State of Palestine with its capital, the city of Jerusalem.
PNC called on also to freeze the membership of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament), which enacts laws that legalize settlement, annexation of Palestinian lands, in a complete contradiction with international law, and the goals and objectives of the parliamentary unions.
In its messages PNC urged the world's governments to continue supporting UNRWA financially and politically, and to respond to UNRWA's urgent appeal for US$ 93.4 million to protect Palestinian refugees from the risk of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PNC explained the measures taken by the Israeli occupation against the legitimate struggle of Palestinian people, by threatening Palestinian banks, on the pretext of providing their services to the families of the prisoners, the wounded, and the Palestinian martyrs.
Israel is continuing to escalate its settlements, its unjust blockade of Gaza Strip, its incursions into cities and villages, and refugee camps, and committing daily arrests, the demolition of homes, and the detention of the bodies of martyrs, PNC clarified.
PNC reminded the parliaments of the displacement of the Palestinian people 72 years ago, by displacing about 950 thousand Palestinians from their homeland, after committing the crime of ethnic cleansing against them by carrying out 250 massacres, and destroying 531 villages and cities.
PNC affirmed its adherence to the right of return of the Palestinian refugees to their homes from which they were displaced in 1948, in accordance with Resolution 194, ending the occupation and establishing the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
Continuing of the national struggle march until achieving all the goals, and the crimes of the Israeli occupation will not compromise the resolve of our people, PNC re-affirmed, stressing the unity of Palestinian people under the umbrella of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the only legitimate representative of Palestinian people in the homeland and diaspora.
Palestine National Council (PNC) welcomed the stand of 130 British House of Commons members who demanded to impose sanctions on Israel, if it will implement the plan to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, and considering it a dangerous precedent in international relations.
In a press statement issued by PNC Speaker, Mr. Saleem Al-Za’anoon, PNC appreciated the courageous stand of these members, who refused the Israeli violation of resolutions of international legitimacy and law of all its parts, which prohibit the annexation and settlement of occupied lands, as what Israel is committing now.
PNC urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and all parliaments in the world to declare its stand of rejecting the policy of annexation and settlement, which the new Israeli coalition government intends to implement, and urges to follow the example of British House of Commons members to protect the principles of international justice, and confront the policy of arrogance and challenging of international law and decisions, which vow of more instability, deterioration of security and destruction of any future opportunities for peace in the region on the basis of ending the Israeli occupation and implementing the two-state solution which is internationally agreed upon and protected by United Nations resolutions.
Friday evening, 130 British House of Commons members from various British parties had sent a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, asking to impose economic sanctions on Israel, in the case that it annexed lands in the West Bank/Palestine.
It counts to mention that this letter was signed by former ministers from the Conservative Party, Lord Patten former President of the Conservative Party, and Mrs. Andrew Mitchell, the former Minister of International Development.
Palestine National Council (PNC) called on the International Labor Organization (ILO) and international trade unions and labor organizations to defend the rights of Palestinian workers, protect them from violations of the Israeli occupation authorities, and protect their rights in accordance with the International Covenants and ILO standards.
In a press release issued today, PNC praised the struggle of Palestine workers, their continuous sacrifices for the freedom of their people, and building the Palestinian economy, despite the suffering they are experiencing as a result of the continued occupation of their homeland. PNC congratulated the workers on the occasion of the International Labor Day.
The suffering of Palestine workers is mainly due to the continued occupation of the State of Palestine, PNC said, and depriving Palestine workers - like the rest of Palestinian people - from investing their natural resources and wealth, as well as the Israeli absolute control over external borders and preventing freedom of movement and internal movement, which failed the natural growth of Palestinian economy and creating sufficient job opportunities for Palestinians.
More than (453) thousand Palestinian workers were affected by the Coronavirus crisis, PNC added, stressing the necessity of obliging the Israeli occupation to halt its racist measures against Palestinian workers, and to hold Israel accountable for its crimes, including throwing and neglecting workers at the checkpoints, on suspicion of being infected with the Coronavirus, without any humanitarian deterrent or offering them any treatment.
PNC noted that Palestine workers are exposed daily to Israeli occupation violations of degrading, inhuman treatment, extortion, and withholding their financial dues, in a clear violation of the rules of international law, international agreements and human rights charters, which guarantee workers’ rights, dignity and humanity. PNC called for the activation of international labor law too.
PNC also called on the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian government to compensate workers who are affected by the measures imposed to combat Coronavirus, and implement the decisions of PNC related to developing of legislation and laws, which guarantee economic and social rights for the Palestinian working class, and promote union freedom.
PNC concluded the statement by affirming that the end of the suffering of the Palestinian people, in all its sectors and segments, will be by salvation from the Israeli occupation, self-determination and establishing Palestine independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
